Unlimited Visit Custom Fields

Custom Fields in FoodBank Manager are one of the biggest, most awesome features provided. At least that is what our customers are saying. What they are is they allow you to make several different types of custom fields to gather the information you need. And you can make as many of them as you want to. They all show up on reports and can make your pages a bit long but if you need them then make them.

Here is a list of the different styles of custom fields you can make for client visits with a brief description.

Custom Visit fields have one primary difference than its companions for the guest and volunteer does. The visit fields record for each visit and when a new visit occurs the fields are blank again and need to be reentered in for each visit. Keep this in mind when using them.

  • Yes No Option - This field lets you collect yes no answers to a statement or question. One use for this that stands out is asking "Do you receive SNAP?".

  • Select Box - This field lets you create a drop down box with multiple answers to choose from. You can add as many answers as needed, we call them options. Then the operator clicks the drop down and chooses the answer that applies but one answer only.

  • Text Box - The text box custom field gives you a small one line box to enter in information. Some may use this to store ID info of some sort but certainly not limited to that.

  • Text Area - The text area allows you a greater space for lengthy descriptions or large chunks of information that needs to be added.

  • Radial Buttons - The Radial Button is similar to a select box field with the exception that all of the choices are displayed and each choice has a small circle to the left of it that you can click in to select that answer. Similar to the questions you answered in tests when in school. There is only one answer that can be selected and it takes up more landscape than the select box does.

  • Checkboxes - the checkboxes field allows you to display all of your answers just like the radial button field does except with checkboxes you can select more than one answer. So multiple answers are allowed. And there is a small box instead of a small circle left of each choice.

  • Date - the date custom field brings up a date picker so a date can be entered. You could use this to track a date when something ocurred for the visit that you need to record. You can also manually enter in a date bypassing the picker using this format yyyy-mm-dd.

  • Email - the email field is designed to accept an email address but it has logic so it checks to make sure the email is formatted correctly. So if it isn't entered in this format a@a.aa it will throw an error asking for a valid email to be entered.

  • Phone - the phone custom field is also one that has formatting built in. If you enter in the phone number in 10 straight digits like 5555555555 it will format it to look like this (555) 555-5555 when saved.

  • Number - the number custom field is designed to only take numbers. It has a permanent 2 decimal place setting so all numbers would have .00 so if you enter in 3 it would be 3.00 in reports. Since this is numbers only no alpha characters are allowed to be entered. Pantries that track their food distributions by the number of bags a guest receives use this custom field type.
